Long-term Environmental Monitoring Program of Occoquan and Potomac Rivers, Virginia 

Objectives of the Long-term Monitoring Program at the SciencePort Science Center are to: 

1. Educate the public on environmental issues in northern Virginia; 

2. Monitor chemical, physical and biological conditions of Occoquan and Potomac rivers; 

3. Provide teachers and students experiences in conducting environmental monitoring; 

4. Present meaningful watershed experiences to teachers, students, and the general public;

5. Foster a love for nature and a concern for its preservation; and, 

6. Promote an understanding of the relationship between the health of humans and the environment.
