The new Science Center's programming
focus will be on creating a new kind of museum - a science
center on the Occoquan River that will become a center of excellence as
a museum, an educational services provider, a community center and a
cultural attraction.
The
major gallery themes will consist of:
 |
US
Fish and Wildlife Service, will allow visitors to
experience and understand the refuge system and the nearby Occoquan
National Wildlife Refuge.
|
 |
Technology
and Innovation, will introduce visitors to the
pervasive technology which impacts our daily lives.
|
 |
Life
Sciences, lets visitors explore the
magnitude and importance of the diversity of life on Earth,
understand the interactions among living things, and see themselves
as part of the natural world.
|
 |
Physical
Sciences, lets visitors explore the
basic sciences which underlie our universe, our world, and our
application of basic science methods in everyday life.
|
 |
Other
galleries, will
provide for changing exhibitions and a large format film
theater.
|
Science
content will be interpreted through the use of interactive and
experiential exhibits. Exhibits will strive to challenge and engage the
interest of a variety of visitors and will create an experience that is
both educational and entertaining. They will follow Virginia's Science
Standards of Learning (SOLs) and parallel recommendations in the
Benchmarks for Science Literacy of the American Association for the
Advancement of Science's Project 2061.
